Rosey Estachia

Rosey Estachia is a cinch to photograph and yet somehow I didn’t quite get her. I like the photo above quite a lot but from there I didn’t nail it. This image was taken with the Sony A1 and the Sony 50mm f1.4 at f1.4. The lighting is good, Rosey’s expression is great, the reflection in the window – photographers generally go (a bit too) crazy over reflections and so in general I don’t seek them out, but I like the reflection here, it adds something.

This image of Rosey Estachia would never be a hit on instagram, it would get lost, but it’s a beautiful environmental portrait regardless. This is all artificial lighting with the Harlowe gobo setup. This image and all images here are copyright Campbell Mattinson. This was taken on the Sony A1 with the Sony 24mm f1.4 at f1.4.

Rosey is a classic; I wish I’d taken more images of her.

Sometimes I look at this image and think: no, it’s not a keeper. Other times I look and think: it’s got something special. I get an emotion from it. And then I don’t. Rosey isn’t your average portrait subject. This was taken on the Sony A6700 with the 50mm f1.4.
