Shanelle Hodgkinson

This portrait of Shanelle Hodgkinson, taken in Torquay in 2025, is a prime example of the power of white on white or, to put it another way, the effectiveness of mono colour rather than the usual complementary-colours ideal. This is all natural light but the curtains are obviously bringing light in and there’s another window to camera left. This is taken with the Sony A1 and the trusty Sony 50mm f1.4 lens. White curtains, white dress, pale skin, silver jewellery and blond hair. It works beautifully..

All my favourite shots from this shoot were taken inside with Shanelle in her white dress except for this one shot, which is nicely aided by the combination of sun glare and a promist filter.

As a general (but often broken) rule I like to have eye-contact between the camera and the subject of the portrait. But this shot of Shanelle Hodgkinson is a beautiful exception; it’s my favourite of the shoot. Everything is pretty much perfect about this shot. All the shots on this page were taken with the Sony A1 and the Sony 50mm f1.4 lens.

Classic stylish, posing and light. Shanelle Hodgkinson in Torquay in 2025.
