Paisley Drain, Williamstown North

Most days of the year I walk along Ross Road in Newport/Altona East, and so I see the Paisley Drain when it rears its ugly head there. Indeed I set a scene from my novel We Were Not Men there. The Paisley drain continues through the Williamstown North industrial estate before crossing under Kororoit Creek Road and emerging here (above), as it leads into the bay, near the Grey Reserve. It’s not a pretty waterway in theory, and you wouldn’t dare swim in it, but I’ve taken a gazillion photos of it over the years. Catch it at sunset and it can be an unlikely treat.
