Mattinson Photography is based in Williamstown, Melbourne.

The speciality is portraits, people and places, created in a clean, editorial style.

I live and work in Williamstown, in Melbourne's west. Most of my photography takes me further afield – winemakers, portraits, editorial work here and abroad – but this is home, and some of my favourite pictures have been made within walking distance of it.

I did start, after all – and this illustrates how long I've worked in western suburbs media – at The Western Times newspaper.

I was a journalist at the start. I still am, but I'm now a working photo-journalist. This shapes how I shoot: I'm less interested in the standard, tidy portrait than I am in a frame that says something essential about a person, a time, or a place. My style is editorial, or documentary, or candid – it's simply the way I see.

So this is the local corner of my overall award-winning work. If you're in Williamstown, Newport, Altona, Yarraville or the wider west and you have something that suits an editorial eye – a portrait, a business or a maker to document, a place worth photographing properly – talk to me about it.
